Circle Fishing Hooks
Circle Fishing Hooks have been around along time and are commonly used by lots of fisherman, this is because the hook ratio is a lot better than the traditional J hook, and they increase the chances of the fishes survival because the fish aren't as likely to swallow the hook into their belly. There really is no need to "set the hook" when fishing with circle hooks. So make sure that you have plenty of these stored in your tackle box, and you won't have to worry about missing that big snook that had gotten away because you couldn't set the hook in time. They may be a little more expensive then the regular J hook but you will land a lot more fish when using a circle hook.
Switch to Circle Fishing Hooks
Circle fishing hooks are similar to the j bend hook except the barb curves inward, it would look like it would not work to catch a fish but circle hooks are extremely effective. Because of the way circle hooks are shaped there is no need to yank the rod up to snag the fish, the hook will set it self, usually right in the jaw. Another benefit of using circle fishing hooks is that they greatly reduce the chances of a fish swallowing the hook, raising the chance of the fishes survival if you choose to release, and makes it a whole lot easier to unhook also. So if you are fishing inshore for smaller species of fish I would definitely recommend using circle fishing hooks.
