Saltwater Fishing Basics
I am here to teach you the basics about saltwater fishing. If you are an experienced fisherman then you might not learn much, but then again I could teach you a thing or two about saltwater fishing. There are many things that come into saltwater fishing, like what you are trying to catch. Are you going out to sea to try and land some big game fish? Or maybe fishing off a pier, or maybe just fishing the flats on a pontoon boat or small flats boat. There are different types of saltwater fishing tackle that you will need for each of these situations.
Saltwater Water Fishing From a Pier
Pier fishing is a good, and they can range in all types of lengths, from a few hundred feet to about a mile. Piers provide great shade and cover for many types of bait fish and other types of fish. Piers that are in Florida are very popular, and if you don’t have a boat, or the money to hire a charter to take you out to sea then this is a good option for you. You will want to have on hand a cooler, cast net for bait, bucket or livewell, and some light spinning rods and reels. Another thing that will benefit you greatly would be a long net, in case you get a big fish on, that way you don’t have to risk breaking your fishing rod or your line. Also, when fishing from a pier you want to make sure that your leader line is 4 times stronger than your regular line, and at least a couple feet long, since you will be pulling some fish up a pretty good distance. There are all sorts of species you can get off of a pier, you can catch snook, redfish, tarpon, mullet, snapper, grouper, and many other kinds of fish. Find a pier near you, and if you aren’t sure what all to bring out there, take notice of the locals that are out there fishing, most of them are probably there every day, and take special notice to the ones that are bringing up fish. See what kind of rods and reels they are using, chit chat with them, try and get there secrets out of them.
Deep Sea Saltwater Fishing
If you are just getting into fishing, I wouldn't even bother trying to go deep sea fishing, because it is very expensive, and not everyone has access to a boat that can go out for many miles. Even if you hire a charter captain to take you out, the price is going to be steep, especially the rate of the gasoline prices these days. When you are very comfortable with inshore fishing, and have some friends that already have experience in deep sea fishing is when you should start thinking about going for the 100 pounders.
